Mavis Page starts grad school heartbroken and alone, but she’s going to make the best of it. Who needs an engagement ring? Not her. She’s determined to land her dream thesis mentor and make awesome friends while she’s at it. Forget love.

 

Desperate for community, Mavis joins a board game club run by the scowling Van D’Arcy. When he asks Mavis on a date right after his own break up, she’s more than turned off.  Forget how handsome he is—she’s no one’s rebound.

 

Her school and love life hit rock bottom, and Mavis wants to throw in her cards. But then she happens upon a miracle: the dice set she buys for the board game club grants wishes. Since God’s dealt her a losing hand, she decides to roll for a new one. Now Mavis has a chance to win the grad school game…but those dice came with stipulations, and she accidentally tosses the rules. One bad play, and Mavis’s heart (and academic career) will land in the discard pile.
